Raena Janes, founder and superintendent, focuses her efforts on education with individualized instruction, incorporation of extracurricular activities and emphasis on the importance of family and community values. This has made La Paloma Academy Tucson’s fastest-growing charter school. In 2005, La Paloma Academy was awarded the State of Arizona’s 2005 Excellence in Education Award. Raena: Raena has been the recipient of Tucson's 40 Under 40 Award, and was also named the 2008 Tucson 40 Under 40 Mentor of the Year.
Raena is an active member in several non-profit community organizations like Junior League of Tucson, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, and the Advisory Council for the Arizona Charter School Association. With Raena’s guidance, La Paloma Academy has and continues to participate in a host of community service projects including cleaning up the environment near the school, seasonal charity drives, bringing gifts to the elderly and a program where students wrote letters to soldiers fighting overseas.
At La Paloma Academy, Raena aspires to educate children on not only academics, but also on how to be outstanding citizens. Additionally, she ensures parents, students and faculty work cooperatively for a more fulfilling education experience.
