Kindergarten is the first step in your child's education. It is important to La Paloma Academy and its teachers that parents are fully involved in their child's first year as a student. This is the time when they begin to start thinking for themselves. We are here to ensure parents are there every step of the way.
Kindergarten students are introduced to using phonetic skills to decode words, written directions, real and fantasy situations as well as writing, word spacing, vocabulary and sentences.
In kindergarten, students begin to learn basic mathematical processes, including addition and subtraction, adding numbers 0-18 both horizontally andvertically, stating and writing numbers before and after a given number; counting by 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s; odd and even numbers; time; and counting with money.
Students are also introduced to topics such as government, cultures, geography and economics – how things in the everyday world work. They also learn about the environment and conduct experiments.
To stay active and healthy, students participate in a weekly physical education class.
