La Paloma Academy's dedication to special education has been strong ever since opening in 2002. In fact, in 2005, La Paloma Academy was recognized with the Excellence in Education Award from the Arizona Department of Education for the school's efforts to benefit special-education students. The award was presented to Founder and Superintendent Raena Janes because of the school's success with special education.
With a high-level of special education staff, La Paloma Academy's special education-program is a competitive solid program, with over 100 special education students. La Paloma Academy's goal is to provide the least restricted environment for every child to learn. Whatever the disability, it can be overcome.
All students who enroll at La Paloma Academy are exposed to a 45-day screening process, where teachers evaluate students’ educational needs. Students who are found to require special education services, as well as those who transfer with services previously in place, are tested as needed and then enrolled in the classes that meet their individual situation.
