School Hours Schools hours run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of early release days. Students in K-6 grade are released early one day per week depending upon the campus. The school offices are open 8am to 4pm. Unless students are in before-school programs, they are not to arrive at school prior to 8:20 a.m. Students are expected to leave campus when they are dismissed, as there is no campus supervision before 8:20 a.m. or after 3:15 p.m.
Tardy Policy When students are tardy, they must report to the office for a late pass. This late pass ensures the student’s name will be removed from the daily absentee report. Due to our reporting system, three unexcused tardies turn into one unexcused absence.
Absentee Policy As defined by the Arizona State Law, absences are considered excessive when the number of absent days exceeds 10% of the number of days required. Thus, any student absent a combined total of 18 days, consecutive or nonconsecutive, excused or unexcused, is seen as truant and excessive. La Paloma Academy will report students with excessive absences to a truancy officer and/or will expel them from La Paloma Academy following due procedures (ARS 15-803). Absences are only excused when accompanied by a doctor’s note or court paper; however, even excused absences are subject to our excessive absence policy.
Dress Code The school uniformed dress code attempts to develop student standards of dress that reduce the appearance of materialism/class status and that encourage a disciplined learning environment. It is important that students adhere to the standards, that parents enforce them at home, and that faculty enforce them at school. The dress code applies to all students at all times during the school day, except when an administrator waives it for a specific activity. The list will be updated and modified as deemed necessary by the school administration and/or school board. Consequences of not being in dress code result in the student remaining in the office until parent provides appropriate attire.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program La Paloma Academy does have a free and reduced lunch program. Any family that is in need and qualifies for the program can rest assured that their personal information is kept confidential and their children’s needs are being taken care of at school. Every family fills out a Free and Reduced Lunch Form upon enrollment.
Sports and Physical Education Programs La Paloma Academy has a full-time physical education teacher and does have a competitive sports program. All of our student athletes are taught about continuing sportsmanship at a competitive level. We have been able to win several league championships while teaching our students to be positive student athletes.
Block Scheduling La Paloma Academy has a reading block, which allows all students to read at their appropriate level. This block allows struggling readers to get help in areas they find challenging, while at the same time, the advanced students are able to receive the attention that they need. We understand the importance of having all students read and achieve at their grade level, and this 90-minute block schedule allows La Paloma Academy to meet the needs of our students.
