Just a reminder that students at La Paloma Academy, your Tucson charter school, have Veterans Day off. Locally, there are a few mid-week opportunities available if you’re looking for a special way to spend the day with family or honor the spirit of the day.
The Morgan McDermott American Legion Post No. 7 will host the 96th annual Tucson Veterans Day Parade this November 11. This year’s theme is “Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of World War II.” The parade and Veterans Day Ceremony begin at the corner of Alameda Street and Granada Avenue downtown at 11 a.m. You can find the full route online.
American Legion Post No. 7 has historically hosted the parade, but it does so with the assistance and support of other American Legion Posts, veterans’ organizations, local merchants, and the community. Both volunteers and donations are vital to the continuation of this community tradition which honors our veterans. You can find more information on their site about both options.
November 11 is also the National Parks Fee-Free Day. There are several in the Tucson area which might make for a great afternoon of family fun. Plus, you might find the perfect spot for a family picnic. The free admission on that day extends to the two districts of the Saguaro National Park: the East- and West-Rincon Mountain Districts, as well as Tumacacori National Historical Park, and the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument.
