During the last month of our school year, we know we are up against warmer weather and the sweet smell of approaching vacation. That means we not only need to work harder to keep our academic expectations high but also creatively plan for how we are going to keep students engaged and attentive in school.
As we approach the finish line, there are many efforts we are making to keep school an exciting place that intrigues students even as summer calls their names. Until the end of the year, we will:
- Continue to make all subjects come alive by participating in hands-on activities and lots of fun experiments.
- Bring the drama when reading aloud to students. We use voices and actions to compel students to enjoy storytelling and books. This should encourage our students to keep reading all summer long. (Tip: Try encouraging your child to write a short story or even a play over the break!)
- Invite students to be active participants in the classroom, so that everyone gets involved and interested. We will continue to pose questions and open the floor for students to engage in thoughtful debate and discussion. Plus, students will be called on to speak up or even get up to write out or act out answers.
- Use work stations so that students can rotate and get an opportunity to work with different partners. Implementing this atmosphere in the classroom challenges students.
- Infuse fun activities into the day such as show-and-tell, indoor and outdoor events, and other creative, mood-boosting experiences that will encourage students to look at school as an exciting place to be.
With intentional planning, we will ensure that students are enthusiastic to be in the classroom and will strive to do their best until the end of May and all the way until next school year. Together, we can encourage our students to always try hard and stay smart.
