Vaping: A Dangerous Trend for Kids

There’s a new health issue for parents to be aware of. Across the country, middle schools and high schools have seen an increase in disciplinary referrals due to e-cigarettes, or vaping.

Daddy-Daughter Dance

La Paloma Central will hold its Daddy-Daughter Dance on Friday, April 6, from 6-8:30 p.m. Female students and the significant male in their lives are cordially invited for an evening of dancing, fun, and cherished memories.

National Women’s History Month

March is National Women’s History Month, and 2018’s theme honors women who fight all forms of discrimination against women. Women’s History Month first began as a single day, which later led to a week, and now we dedicate the whole month of March to honoring women’s achievements in history. Black History Month

February is full of holidays with Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents’ Day. The whole month of February is also a time to celebrate and remember the great accomplishments and impact of notable African American figures in history. School Safety

In light of the tragic school shooting in Florida this week, we want to let parents know of the safety precautions implemented at La Paloma Central. We have regular drills to prepare our students and staff for different situations. These drills are designed to keep our students safe.

The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza

The Title I staff will perform the play The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza on Friday, February 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. As part of our Literacy Night celebration, we will have a pizza dinner, raffle and photos with the characters.

Grandparents Day Breakfast, February 21

Attention all grandparents! Come to our “Wild West Breakfast,” Wednesday, February 21 at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $3 single, with one student; $5 couple, with one student; and $2 each additional student. District Spelling Bee Winner

Our district spelling bee took place on January 24th at La Paloma Academy Lakeside. Eighteen strong spellers from all three campuses battled it out for the top spot. It came down to Morgan Rice (8th grade, Central) and Alyssandra Urbano (7th grade, Lakeside). After about eight rounds of going back and forth, Morgan emerged victorious. He will compete against 27 other district winners in the county bee on February 24th at Canyon del Oro High School. Good luck, Morgan!

Register for the Youth Basketball Clinic

Arizona Basketball Academy’s Youth Basketball Clinic comes to Lakeside on January 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is open to boys and girls, ages 9-14. The $20 registration fee includes a free basketball and camp shirt.
