The students of La Paloma Central remember the 14 students and 3 faculty members from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who were killed in a shooting on February 14. Students read the victims’ names and observed 10 seconds of silence for each. They also wrote inspirational messages on a 100-foot chain, made from cut-outs of the school’s Be Kind mural. The chain will be sent to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Our district spelling bee took place on January 24th at La Paloma Academy Lakeside. Eighteen strong spellers from all three campuses battled it out for the top spot. It came down to Morgan Rice (8th grade, Central) and Alyssandra Urbano (7th grade, Lakeside). After about eight rounds of going back and forth, Morgan emerged victorious. He will compete against 27 other district winners in the county bee on February 24th at Canyon del Oro High School. Good luck, Morgan!
Arizona Basketball Academy’s Youth Basketball Clinic comes to Lakeside on January 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is open to boys and girls, ages 9-14. The $20 registration fee includes a free basketball and camp shirt.
Kids grow up fast and parents often get too caught up in daily activities to think about their child’s future. Writing down all your experiences, hopes, and lessons for your future adult child will help give them a better understanding of how you were at that age and what they should expect in the coming years. Your child is young now, but what do you want to tell them when they become an adult?
