During enrollment, parents gave permission for their students to appear in various media for interviews, photographs, or news stories. If you would like rescind that permission, we’ll tell you how to opt-out of having your child appear in future media events.

Proposed federal tax regulations may forbid a federal tax deduction for any donations made which also qualify for state tax credits, if the credit is more than 15% of the total donated. Recent changes in federal tax laws, have increased the standard deduction allowed when filing taxes for 2018, which will also reduce the number of taxpayers who will itemize their deductions. Desert Taekwondo will be holding classes at La Paloma Lakeside every Wednesday, 2-3 p.m., from August 29 through December 12. Taekwondo not only enhances a child’s fitness level, but also teaches discipline and respect while building self-esteem.
Are you mad for science? If so, Join Lakeside’s Mad Scientist Club! From August 28 to December 18, students will meet with Ms. Chambers every Tuesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m., in the MPR. Open to grades 1-4, limited spots available.
If you love playing chess, or if you’d like to learn, make the right move and join Lakeside’s Chess Club. From August 27 to December 17, the club will meet every Monday, 4-5 p.m., in Ms. Bell’s classroom. Open to grades 1-8, limited spots available.
Does your child have a cell phone? The odds are the answer is “Yes.” Statistics show that 56 percent of children 8-12 have a cell phone. It’s difficult to think of a product or technology, designed for adults, that was so quickly and ubiquitously co-opted by kids. Of course, Mom and Dad have to buy the phones and pay the bills, but cell phones have become a necessity in many kids’ lives.
Parents are invited to join their student for a pancake breakfast, courtesy of La Paloma Lakeside, on August 22, 7:30-8:15 a.m. Because it starts early, parents and students can wear pajamas if they wish. Students who participate can stay in their PJs all day, as long as they promise not to fall asleep in class.
